I did suggest that Capt Russell was a George!

I still think she was Jessie.

Hi

I have just received the marriage certificate for John and Georgina Proud, you were spot on Gnu, George Russell Ship Master,I am trying to pin him down in Inverness around the time that Georgina was born, are there any 1851 census for Fort George or Fort Augusta or any Naval Records that will give more information on George Russell??

Have you checked the 1851 census, Marg?  Although, I think I might have looked  in those.

Otherwise, I'm not sure - maybe naval or merchant navy records. You could see if they're on the NA database:

added - beware of the 'ship master' description - it might have been family hearsay or she could have made it up  :-\  Also, he might well be out of the area by 1851.

Thanks Gnu I think I will have to  give up on this one, as you say Captain George could have been fantasy and with no DOB or area where he was born it is like looking for a needle in a hay stack, I have looked on the NA Naval records and the census but nothing stands out

Thanks again for your help Margp

Sarah Campbell is my GG grandmother
"George Russell" is a pseudonym for her first husband, the father of Georgina Russell.  I do not believe they were formerly married.
Her second husband was Thomas Itcheson Fraser
Georgina Russell married John Joseph Proud the parents of Daisy Georgina Proud
Daisy Georgina Proud married Ernest James Edwards the parents of Ruby Violet Daisy Edwards who is my mother

Hi HKB

John Joseph Proud was my husbands 1st cousin 3x removed and I believe it is thanks to you, by the submitted tree on the LDS site, that I have found so much information on John and Georgina, I am in touch with Pam Clarke, who was the wife of Cedric Clarke his mother was Rosie Proud, unfortunately Cedric past away a couple of years ago, he also left a lot of imformation on line about the Proud/Campbell and Fraser Ancestry.

I have gone back to the 1600's on the Proud's, you will have to do 3 post before you can send a PM,so if you reply to this, spilt it into 2 post's you will then be able to send me a Private Message, let me have your e-mail details and I will send you my tree

All the best Margaret Proud
