Hello Bridget

I think you have done extremely well with your transcription. I may be completely wrong in what I see but : -

The names abovesaid, which are rased have had ye oaths tendered them, and proxy are come forth upon their indictment.
Not signed.

Rased was an old term for erased. The first letter certainly looks like the r in Lawrence. Perhaps it was another term for underlined !

Let's see what others think  :)

Thank you, Emmeline and Braw.  I thought the odd word might be 'rased', but the 's' is quite different from the other 's's in the document.  Still, I can't think of another word it could be!

Could the last two words be 'ut supra', rather than 'not signed'?

Bridget

I think Bridget this is the body of the text which you are querying the date of in the other thread? Please confirm or otherwise.

Yes, Redroger, this is part of the text that I'm querying the date of in the other thread.  (It's actually a very long document, listing the names of the recusants in Kendal Ward, but I've only had trouble with a few bits and pieces.)

So where do you stand now Bridget? Any more for us to help with if possible? Never ceases to amaze me the variation in handwriting in the 16th, 17th and to a less extent the 18th centuries. I have successfully read documents from the mid 1th century (1556), and failed miserably with documents from the 1750s.
