Berkshire Overseers Papers - Hale Look Up Completed
« on: Thursday 20 October 11 01:27 BST (UK) »
If someone has access to this, I would love to find out any information about the Hale family of Shellingford/Shillingford, Berkshire. Thomas Hale, my distant uncle, was an overseer there in 1600 and his son John also lived in the area. I'm hoping to find out if Thomas Hale likely was born there or if he probably moved there from somewhere else.

Thanks in advance. :)

Hi tanyal,

I can't help  with Overseer papers for Shellingford but in the PRs for this parish (ex OFHS)
there are a few "Hales" some of which my be of interest;
Baptisms;
17-4-1590 Alexander   Hale    s/o Thomas & Anne
8-1-1595   John              "        "       "            "

29-1-1621 John           Hale     s/o Thomas & mary

22-1-1668  Thomas      Hale    s/o Thomas & Mary

Marriage;
7-11-1627  John Hale - Catherine Wise

Bur;
5-6-1634   Thomas Hale

There are more baptisms which I can list if you wish, but have only extracted those that may be relevant.

I feel certain that the Thomas who was baptising children in the 16th century is my uncle; the timeframe is right. I'm not sure who the later Thomas is, but perhaps further research will clear that up for me.

Thanks very much.  ;D

Hi tanyal,

Go to this web site. You'll find a lot of Parishes that are available on CDs to purchase.
Scroll towards the bottom of the page and you will see the CD # and whats included on each disc;

Hi Tanyal,

the earliest overseers entries from the BFHS CD for Shellingford only date from abt 1715 and no Hailes or variants amongst them.

I also can't see any other relevant reference to a Thos or John Hailes from any other parish on the CD.

cheers Chris
