Furness/Monteith mrg in 1821 Belford, PLS!
« on: Thursday 20 October 11 21:09 BST (UK) »
Hello all, I am hoping the parish register MAY give me a clue on the bride.....The Rev. John Robson Furness married Mary Monteith on 21 May 1821 in Belford, NBL.  I have complete details on the groom, whose father was also a Reverend.  The bride, Mary Monteith, has been a real challenge......I can't seem to find her parents, altho some of her children and grandchildren carry the middle name of St. Clair and it doesn't appear to be from the groom's side.  Can anyone help me with any information on Mary Monteith??   (A previous shout for help to Rootschat resulted in finding the family in 1841 and we know she was not born in the county..... )  Thank you kindly.  Pat

Did she die before the 1851 census?

The death cert is unlikely to help with her birthplace unfortunately.  Most inconsiderate of her to die before 1851!!

Monteith sounds Scottish and there are only 3 entries in her birthyear range (1792-1796) on the IGI

1793 Devon (Mary Ann) 1795 Hampshire and 1794 Edinburgh.  The Edinburgh one has the middle name of Morthland so unlikely

However - that pre-supposes her birth/baptism is on the IGI which may not be the case

Hi again CarolW,  hmmmm, yes, I had thought there might be a possibility for her coming from Scotland...... I just had a "brainstorm"!  Do you happen to  know how to check to see if Belford is listed in Bishop's Transcripts?  Sorry to be so lame....I keep forgetting about that relatively new source on line.  ::) Thanks for your interest!  Pat

Hi again! Well, I looked at the LDS site and for Bishop's Transcripts on line I do NOT see Belford listed.   :'(  I am hoping someone may have those marriage registers at home; if not I'll see if I can order that film and see what it says.  thanks again!  Pat

Hi Pat

I don' have them at home but I can access them at Northumberland Archives on Wednesday.  However you are not going to pick up any parent detail from a marriage record in 1821.

All you will get is the parish in which the bride was residing at the time of the marriage and the names of the witnesses.

Let me know if you want me to look it up.

Christine

Hello c-side, I will appreciate a look at that entry........perhaps the witnesses will help me..........and knowing her home parish would help, because at this point I know precious little about her!  Thank you for your interest!  Pat
