Fanny TAYLOR
« on: Friday 21 October 11 11:42 BST (UK) »
Looking for help on finding evidence of marriage between or any other information on Fanny Taylor born North Tawton approx 1852 and James Edward Grindrod born Torrington Lower End, Lancashire. According to 1891 census Fanny and her (?) children were living as lodgers with James in North Tawton.

Many Thanks

On FreeBMD, there are 7 births of a James Edward Grindrod between 1853 and 1898, most of them in Lancashire. One was in Haslingden.
I have looked at marriages and none had married a Fanny Taylor. The nearest was a James Grinrod marrying a Fanny Tarte in Dec 1878 in the Haslinden District.
I can't see a marriage between your 2 people though....

Fanny is shown Taylor & is unmarried in 1891 whilst James is shown as married

The 1881 shows Fanny still living with her parents

In 1901 she is Fanny Grindrod and shown as wife to James

The 1911 free index shows them as Grinrod

Curious as to why you state that James Edward Grindrod was born in Torrington Lower End ? There is no Torrington Lower End in Lancashire.  Every census whilst living with Fanny states he was born in Rochdale.  Tottington Lower End was a Township in Bury Parish not Rochdale.

Newton Abbott is in in Devon as is Torrington. Possibly Lancashire is a red herring?

Brum mentioned Torrinton in Lancashire. Mosiefish rightly points out there is no Torrington in Lancashire.

Torrington and North Tawton are both in Devon.

Yes - but James was born in Rochdale Lancashire on each census which is why Mosiefish has queried the birthplace given by Brum in the opening post

Lancashire is not a red herring - James was definitely born there
