Strange spelling of Ierland  :-\ however, the place name looks like Kilmarnock (which is in Scotland)- only a few places in Ireland actually begin 'kilmar'- all of are Kilmartin or forms of it.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

HI
i know this thread is quite old but I am hoping it is still being followed.  I looked at James and his family as there had been a belief from earlier census records that he was connected to our family.  We come through from Edward Fagan is found living at 7 Griffin St Workington.  We always believed that Edward came from Kilkeel and the 1911 census confirms this but the birth place of James puts doubt to the connection of the families other than the marrriage of the two sisters.   I have spent a chunk of the the day looking for a Kilmarnock in Ireland and the closest I can find is a small area of Killiney near Dublin.  Did you make any further progress following on from the posts?     Claire

Hi,
I wonder if the area might be KILMANNOCK. It is a townland in the New Ross district in Co. Wexford.

This is another avenue to investigate.  I have just looked at the 1901 census for that area and can't immediately spot any Fagan's.  That does not however mean there were never any Fagan's!  You answer one question and always create a thousand more!  I was considering if someone would state Ireland as a birth place as they always considered themself to be Irish but on further questioning revealed they were actually born in Kilmarnock Scotland?  ??? ?? ??

Hello,

If I have the right family he is with wife Sarah and son Peter in 1891. Peter is a baby. I can't see a marriage in Cumberland - do you have Sarah's maiden name from any children's birth certificates?
You could then look for a marriage in Ireland.
His marriage to Mary Murray would also give his father's name which may help.

Claire, who are the two sisters you mention?

regards
heywood

James' first wife was Sarah Murphy.  Edward is married to her sister   Elizabeth Murphy.  Edward married inFeb 1882 in Workington and his Marriage cert states his father as being Patrick (deceased)  I gained info regarding James from other people on this and other sites and so have never seen his marriage cert,  i have his marriage listed as 19 Sept 1889 Workington.  It is ages since I worked on this branch of my tree and I cannot for the life of me remember where the info came from.  From a quick search I can see it is not listed on Free BMD or ancestry but it may be second hand info or I may have obtained it from the records office.  I have never been able to find James on the 1901 census although Sarah and the children are there.  I also know from looking at the records Office that Owen Fagan is the Godfather of James and Sarah's daughter Rose Ann (Rose Hannah) 1901.  Owen is born Kilekeel and although at the moment I have yet to obtain his marriage cert, info I have from an Irish site is giving some strong indications to link him to Edward and I always thought James!  Now I am confused about James!!!!   Is this a confusing answer?????? ??? ??? ??? ???

James fagan's marriage to Sarah can be found on free BMD but his name is spelt Fagen.  You know when you found it somewhere!!! I also think I have just found what I wrote down when I visisted the  records office about James and Sarah's marriage it is listed as James son of Patrick 19 sept 1889.  Regards Claire
