Photo Date and any Information
« on: Saturday 22 October 11 13:20 BST (UK) »
This photograph is among my mother's album of not many photos at all.
She was born 1924 in Cramlington NBL. As I live in Australia I have no idea where this is taken, I am presuming in Nortumberland (areas my mother lived Cramlington, Morpeth, Annitsford. I understand if this is not sufficient to get started, however, I though I would try.
The photograph is on a 'postcard' with no details on the reverse. Left hand side Label Correspondence - right hand side Address
There is a little logo in the centre of the back that looks like a drawing of a castle.

What a lovely photo...my first impression was that it could be a music concert....It has a 1930s look about it I think.

My first thought was 1930's sometime. I wondered if the young girl is my mother? The gentleman sitting behind the standing lady (receiving flowers?) looks like a Mayor? Wigs and regalia (chain of office on man to right hand side of the photo for example makes me feel that it is an official function. A town welcome to the lady possibly.
Does anybody recognise the lady?
Is the building a local City/Town Hall somewhere?
It should be England and NBL. My mother lived there until joining WAAF in 1941.
As I said - may not be enough to identify. Thank you for your contribution, treetotal.

H Robert.....I thought the little girl could be your Mum too...Some of them have got programmes too so some official ceremony of sorts...maybe the opening of the building...it's a bit modern for a Town Hall....they are usually old buildings...there is a microphone on the table too for speeches.

Robert, I can't believe there isn't a Rootschatter somewhere would recognise this building, it is quite distinct.  You could try posting in the Northumberland section as well.

I was about to suggest that too Kath....those four diamonds on the parapet must be symbolic...I have googled images for town halls in the places mentioned and have come up with nothing this modern...maybe Law Courts...I feel it is the opening of that building shown...whatever it might be!

Hi

Carol asked me to take a look  :)

I don't recognise it as anything in the area  but it might be that the portico or whatever was built especially for the event and taken down afterwards.  It looks  like a modern  Art Deco (1930s) addition to  the building behind which  is obviously older.

I'm not a Northumberland local - I just live here - but I'm reasonably familiar with the Morpeth area - Sorry :-\

gnu

Added - will ask Christine to take a look  :D

Looking at the dignitaries there's the Lord Lt. of the County present so one would expect the lady to be of importance, maybe a royal. The building looks new & certainly in the 30's style so perhaps she's opening it.

Yes, I agree with Gnu ... the front of the building looks false.   But does anyone know when those sort of metal framed windows came in, and is that a square sectioned downpipe ??   All useful for dating !
