I wouldn't rule out Edwina Mountbatten, I have found this image of her taken 1930 in India.

Looks a  poss, Kath. The ears are a bit different though  :-\

Added  - I think the photo is from 1947 (with Lord M and Nehru) and not 1930

Gnu
I did wonder about the ears - I am learning! - but the top of ear is covered with hair on the mystery lady and the other has an ear-ring - I think.

Gen List Lass - yes - one needs to be like they are on those forensic TV shows. From my initial post on the dating board this is becoming quite a 'case'. Thank you for your contribution.

Dear gnu and Kath Davis

The feminine touch! You are seeing things I, a male, do not notice so readily. So far I am not convinced it is Lady Edwina, though. Robert

I think it's going to be a newspaper search, Robert. I think I've looked at every public building in Northumberland  :-X

Clutching at straws now  but could you maybe put up the back of the photo - you said it had a castle motif on it.

Hi gnu, I have attached the back of the picture - for what it is worth. I have cropped just the area that has any writing/image.

Any 1900s archive sites that I could search? Please let me know and I will go for it!

Thanks Robert

Hi Bob...I posted a link for Northumberland History Societies on page 2...Might be worth contacting them.
I wonder if the lady to the left of the little girl could be her Mother...look at the expression on her face...just a thought.
