William & Martha......married in Shropshire??.....
« on: Sunday 23 October 11 18:38 BST (UK) »
Hi All

A long winded request, my apologies!, but have come to a halt on this one!!.....

My g g g grandfather William Griffiths, b.about 1803, Mold. and his family in Shropshire in 1841.....

William Griffiths 25
Martha 25
Isabel 8
Amelia 7
Charlotte 5
?Edwin 3
Mary 1

Only Martha and Isabel born in county.

Living ?Netherheath, am struggling to read the entry....the census ref is  HO107/Piece:909/Folio:24/Page:18

I have them in the census 1851-1891 including William's and Martha's deaths, throughout these census they are living in Gwernaffield/Pantymywyn nr Mold, Flintshire. All children born post 1841, including my g g grandfather Henry b.1850, stated as born Mold.

Martha's birthplace varies from the not very useful NK, Shropshire!! and ???Bogmine....

I've yet to find an appropriate marriage over the border in Wales, can anyone help in my search for a marriage in Shropshire???

Many thanks for reading this!!

Sarah :)

If he was 25 in 1841 his birthyear would be around 1813-1816 - ages were rounded down in 1841

All children born post 1841,

Isabel, Amelia and Charlotte were all born pre-1837 given their ages in 1841

Isabel 8
Amelia 7

Do you have a copy of any of the post 1837 childrens birth certs to help with Martha's maiden name

Hi Sarah

Nether Heath, Upper and Lower, is a township in the parish of Worthen in Shropshire and Bog Mine is the Stiperstones area. They are in the same area.
I can check the parish records for that area when I next go, but that will be after the kids go back to school. I take it your looking for a marriage record and baptism of Isabel.

Hi Sarah,

I managed to get to the Archives yesterday and sadly didnt find a marriage.
I checked Worthen, Shelve and Westbury records.

All I found on the family was 2 baptism records in Shelve parish

October 5th 1834
Amelia daughter of William and Martha  Griffith, Bog, Wentnor, Miner

November 6th 1842
William son of William and Martha Griffith, Pennerley, Parish of Worthen, Miner,

I did notice the surname Hodgkiss was common to the area which could be something to look into as there were no Hodgkinson or Hodgcase that I saw.
