Bert FRAYNE, Hatherleigh, 20th century
« on: Monday 24 October 11 05:51 BST (UK) »
Hi:

I'm looking for any information on a Bert Frayne, born 1903 in Hatherleigh.  I can find him on the 1911 census, living at Fishmarket Hatherleigh with his family.  Bert's age on the 1911 census is 8.  After that, there seems to be very little information for him.  I've already contacted the OPC for Hatherleigh but she could only provide limited information.

Is there anyone out there from Hatherleigh that would have knowledge of the family?  Bert's father James Frayne was born in North Molton in 1866 and on the census, his occupation was farm labourer.  Bert's mother, Mary Ann, nee Cotty, was born in South Molton in 1876.  According to the census, the family may have briefly lived in Jacobstowe, then moved back to Hatherleigh, as the two youngest children were born in Jacobstowe.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Albert Frayne married Winifred B Coles 3rd quarter 1934 in Plymouth.

Are you looking for ancestors of Albert or descendants?

Margaret

Hi:

My question: is Albert Frayne and Bert Frayne the person?  If it is, then I'm looking for descendants.  I've been able to trace the Frayne line back to the beginning of the 18th century.

Also, ancestry.com has an Albert Frayne who died in 1989 in Devon.  I don't have a subscription so I'm not able to tell where in Devon.

Thanks for the information.

Thanks for the info.  Unfortunately, that's not the right Frayne.  Bert Frayne was born the June quarter 1903 in Hatherleigh.  Hatherleigh is part of the Okehampton district.

I know that Bert Frayne's father was James Frayne, born in 1866 in North Molton.  A James F Frayne died in the June quarter of 1944 in the Bideford district, age 78.  I think that this may be Bert's father.  Would there have been an obituary for him in the South Molton gazette in 1944, as the Frayne family was from North Molton?

I've already had someone very kindly do a lookup for me in the Bideford papers but they didn't find any obituary for James Frayne.
