Address Look-up Please
« on: Tuesday 25 October 11 11:09 BST (UK) »
My gt grandmother (Eiizabeth McNally) gave her address as 74 Dorset Street Upper when she married on 2nd November 1862.

Does anyone have access to a Thoms for that year or the year after and might be able to tell me who the occupiers were?

Many thanks

1858 :

  74 Dorset Street Upper
   Patrick McNally, victualler

1863 :

  74 Dorset Street Upper
   Patrick McNally, victualler

Update : same details in Thom's 1862 (LibraryIreland.com)

Many thanks Shane

As a matter of interest, would you (or anyone else) know if Dorset Street was considered a 'better' ;) address than say those in Moore Street, Riddals Row etc in that area of the city?

Thanks

You could try comparing the listings for the two streets in the online Thom's - e.g. the valuation of the premises, number of tenements, the types of business, the number of professionals, esq etc

  Moore Street

Dorset St looks to me to be a little bit more residential and upmarket at this time than Moore St

In 1862 Riddal Row is completely occupied by victuallers - so I think Dorset Street would be a step up in the world.

Thanks again Shane, it's what I thought, looks as if he had mixed fortunes?

This seems to have been his movements from what I can gather so far. The addresses shown in the 'clip' below are those where there a Patrick McNally who is a 'victualler' or butcher and whose wife is Elizabeth as noted on the marriage records of their children.

Unfortunately, according to the 1851 Census (Heads of Household) it looks as if there are a few Patrick McNally's
