Samuel Coyne
« on: Wednesday 26 October 11 08:54 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am looking for info on a Samuel Coyne who married a Margaret McLeod I beleive they came from Ireland and imigrated to Canada.
They had a son Thomas Ainsworth Coyne,my Great Grandfather born in 1855 in Canada,he immigrated to Australia and died in Aus in 1927.
I can't find any BMD or any info regarding Samuel & Margaret, and I am wondering if anyone has any info on these pair,I would love to hear from you.
Thanking you
Cheers
Judy

The family would have left Ireland before the start of civil registration so you'll need more information before starting to search for any surviving Irish records.

Where in Canada did they settle? have you found any death records for Samuel and Margaret which might give clues?

Have a look at Introduction to Irish Records and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?.

Thanks for the links, unfortunately I don't know much at all,not even where they settled in Canada, family rumour has it Samuel was in the RCMP,I checked their site and they only have records from 1920.Does Canada have a searchable database for Canadian BMD's covering all states,I don't seem to be able to find one.Thanking you.

Canadian records are kept by each individual Province (like Australian records which are not kept on a central database).

Do you know when Thomas arrived in Australia?

Found this thread on another message board which mentions possibility that Samuel Coyne came to Canada during the Famine- in which case he and Margaret might have married in Canada.

Thanks, someone also says that Samuel was Scotch/Canadian ?
No records on Thomas Ainsworth arriving in Australia that I have found ,but his oldest child was born in Aust in 1886,only records in Aus is his death entry that I can find.I will keep searching.
