Earlier censuses have him born Erbistock (just outside of Ruabon) circa 1833. I'm not sure if I have the registers and  he's away from home on the 1851, so not showing with parents.

The 1841 for that area is missing - to save Kevin and Isobel from searching for it

Possible marriage?

September qtr 1855
Wrexham district    vol 11b, page 417

Pemberton,Robert
+ and on the same page +
Jones, Mary Ann

Gnu - Thanks for the heads-up!
Isobel - We still don't know which century, so either of us may be on the right track?!  ;D

I only see a death for a later one in Marleybone so will stick to the older one for the moment!

Either of these might be his parents in 1851

Crymball, Eyton  ( Eyton is close to Ruabon and Erbistock)
HO107/2502/465/9

Robert Pemberton, 66. farmer of 12 acres, b. Codington, Cheshire
Elizabeth, wife,56, laundress, b. Ruabon
Hanna Griffiths, 18 house servant, b. Erbistock
Jane Roden, 16 -do-, b. -do-

or

Rhyddallt, Ruabon
HO107/2503/44/6

John Pemberton, 63, farm bailiff, b. Codington, Cheshire
Mary, 53, b. Ruabon
Thomas, s, 25, sawyer
Catherine, d, 23, dress maker
John, s, 20, smith
George, s, 14, ag lab.

All children born Erbistock

There may be others but can't see any other likely ones on a first go around.

There seem to be a pocket of Pembertons  b. Coddington.

gnu

added (12.19pm) - from the 1871 census RG10/5652/25/12 , his first son looks as if it was John so the second one looks the more likely.  In 1861, a brother, Thomas, 35, was living with him so i think that the John and mary look correct.
