« on: Friday 28 October 11 15:37 BST (UK) »
my ancestor was a local councilor in brecon before his untimely death in a railway accident.  my living relatives do not know on which line he died on.  i am assuming it was brecon to .......  the accident took place i believe somewhere bewteen 1914-1919.  how can i find information on his death and more so the year so i can go to brecon libary and look in the old papers.  the accident did not occur in brecon.
i have written to the local town council but have had to reply as to his status as councilor
many thanks

Do you know where he died?
How old was he?

Looking at FreeBMD, one of the following might be your Frederick:

December qtr 1916, Pontypridd, Frederick Lewis   age 73
September qtr 1918, Cardiff, Frederick Lewis   age 61
June qtr 1919, Pontypridd, Frederick Lewis   age 52

frederick was born approx. 1888 in brecon.  his wife remarried by 1919 so i am assuming he would have been in his late 20;s.   i saw the death entry in newport and tried to look for a railway accident logged into the railway archives but did not find anything.

Assuming that the 28 yr old is indeed your Frederick, then the death was registered in Newport.
Deaths had to be registered in the Registration District in which the actual death occurred, so looking up Newport newspapers might prove worthwhile.

thank you for your input.  i live in the neath area so it will be a little difficult in getting to newport as i dont drive.  maybe if i go up to brecon libary there may be a write up in their local newspaper being as he was from llanfaes.  its easier to get there on the bus.

Did you find Frederick on 1891-1911 censuses? What year did he marry?
Found an early death age 23 in 1908 of Frederick Charles Lewis
