Cemeteries at Dollar
« on: Saturday 29 October 11 04:09 BST (UK) »
Having problems with burials of the following.
Jean McLare 1817-1894.
William Hall 1813-1899.
John McLaren 1786-1859.
Jean McLaren nee Watson 1781-1867.

They all lived and died Burnside Dollar, but cannot find any burials, have tried Memento-Mori but no dice, has anyone any other ideas.

hi Patvp  :)

some info. here -

http://www.clacksweb.org.uk/community/cemeteries/

would john mclaren's(1786-1859) death cert. have details of his burial ?

i have found a burnside between alva and tillicoultry with a cemetery not far
away(alva cemetery ?)

on the 1841 census there is a burnside that comes under tillicoultry

i note a william hall age 68 at 12 stirling street tillicoultry in 1881
there is a stirling street not far from alva cemetery

there also seems to be a burnside farm road to the north of the cemetery

Hi Ev - Missed adding from death cert -

"churchyard Clackmannan identified by John Robertson undertaker"

And address given as Burnside, Dollar.  ???

Quite odd really ??

Burnside at Dollar is split between East Burnside and West Burnside i.e. either side of the burn.
There are some pictures of Dollar churches at
http://anguline.co.uk/Dollar/Dollar%20Churches.htm

It seems the people lived in Dollar and from what has been written buried in Clackmannan (the village the county takes its name from).

The early church at Clackmannan was dedicated to St. Serf, but when the new church was built it was dedicated to St Andrew.
It is now simply Clackmannan Parish Church.

Depending on the exact wording of the documents you have it seems possible the burials were either at Dollar or Clackmannan.

I wonder if the people mentioned were United Presbyterian as their church on East Burnside did not (as far as I remember) every have a burial ground attached.
Though the Parish Church (which has a churchyard) is almost directly behind and above it.
Cheers
Guy

Hi Patvp

I'm coming to this a bit late but I did live in Dollar for three years and it was right on the border of Perthshire up until 1975.  It may be worth looking at Muckhart or Crook of Devon.  There were other places nearby such as Blairingone, Rumbling Bridge but not sure if they had churches. :)
