Death notices Newcastle Chronicle...Completed.....Thank you
« on: Saturday 29 October 11 17:06 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone who has access to coroner inquest records for newcastle upon tyne November 1891 or local papers at that time can help me with the following.....

John Kelly died 17th November 1891 as the result of injuries accidently received by being knocked down by a locomotive engine. An inquest was held on the 19th November 1891 and registered on the 23rd of November the informant being the Coroner.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Kind regards Erin
 :)

Inquest records rarely survive. The local newspapers will be a good bet.

Hi Erin

A little bit of info for you from the Newcastle Courant, Sat Nov 21, 1891

Blaydon
Accident on the Railway- A married man named John Kelly, 56 years of age, labourer, residing at 11 Delaval Terrace, near Scotswood, was knocked down by a train near Blaydon late on Saturday afternoon. He was removed to Newcastle Royal Infirmary, where it was found that he had a severe scalp wound.

I don't see anything else at the moment

Added - just had a look on the Tyne & Wear Archives site. It looks as if the inquest records for that period don't exist, although there are some earlier and later ones  :(

Thank you for your advice Tom.

Yes that is my great grandfather. Thank you so much GNU, this is fantastic. This means such a lot as we had no idea at all how he had died prior to gaining his death certificate and his address in the paper confirms I have the correct one.
Thank you once again.

Kind regards Erin

Just checked and there is a death notice  in the Evening Chronicle (as Kelley):

Maybe someone might be going to the Local Studies Library/Archives

Hi Steve.
Thank you very much for looking this up. This tells me quite a lot as I have been looking for the burial place of John Kelley for years and I can now start looking at Benwell Cemetery.

Kind Regards
Erin
