The state does not have recorsd before 1917 and prior records would be housed at the county level.

Mount Carbon is located in Fayette County

Dear familysearcher --  a couple of questions

When you say Mount Carbon,West Virginia which is located in Mineral County, by the way --  are you referring to today's name for that area?   Mineral County was disputed territory between WV and Maryland until 1910 when courts ruled in favor of WV.  So may need to check Maryland records as well.

Also,  Geo. W.  you say he was a British subject --  i.e. he was born in England 1892 and then immigrated with his parents to WV sometime between 1892 -1900?

If I need to be looking for JOhn & Mary --  any guess as to their birhdates or other children's names?

I looked for Geo. W and John --  nothing came up which looked likely but will relook based on your info.

If you have interest in Mineral County --  "googled" it and found website from the Chamber of Commerce

Hi fs,  pending more info from you,  found not much info

1900 Greenbrier Co., Meadow Bluff, WV

George W. Hunter age 8 Grandson in household of James Deitz

in this county/town families of Hunter, Deitz and McClung all intermingled living next to each other and each other's households.  However all WV born of WV parents.  No visible recent link to Eng.

in searchin 1900/1901  found no Hunters, Eng. born in Mineral Co.  In fact found no Mineral Co., Mount Carbon listings at all so suspect there is something not right about this location.

thanks

George W Hunter was born in Mount Carbon (we believe)

His parents married in the USA, and came back to England by 1900.

His sisters Margaret A and Mary E were born around 1894 and 1897 in USA

I googled Mount Carbon and came up with a site in Fayette county?

thanks again

Sue, When I googled Mount Carbon I got modern references to Fayette Co. as well,  however if I go back to circa 1890-1900 --  things were different.  WV history is very complicated and I'm not from there so don't know all the details.  Only did a little quick research.

In 1895 Town/Village search, Mount Carbon comes up with 2 references:   Fayette Co. and Hampshire Co. which was also partioned to create Mineral.

Fayette encompasses the Greenbrier area which is where I found the Hunter et al info. I gave you.

In Mineral Co., circa 1900's, town of Piedmont was also known as "Mount Carbon" for it's predominant mining interests.

Mineral is to the NE of Fayette.

Looks like they missed 1890 Census which only exists in fragments anyway due fire/flood.  And they's already returned to Eng by 1900 so don't think I can help.

Sorry, good luck!
