GERMAN family
« on: Monday 31 October 11 10:15 GMT (UK) »
Is anyone researching a family called German? John CT (Jack) and Hilda Gladys are two ancestors of mine, great aunt/uncle lived in Truro. I know dates of birth and death. Just wanted to know if anyone else had them on their trees and what if any information we could share.

Thanks

Hi, I have 24 connections with that surname, but as you go further back it is more commonly spelt Jermyn and not German. My earliest is Edward Jermyn who was born 1821 Ireland and  married Betsey Prout 18Feb 1843 Padstow Cornwall. They had 7 children all born Padstow Cornwall. If you can give me rough birth dates. I will see if there is any connection between us. Regards Terry

Hi Terry
John Charles T German b.1903 Falmouth, d.1993  St Austell.
Hilda Gladys German (nee Haines) b.1906 Tidworth, Wilts, d.2005 Cambourne-Redruth, Cornwall.

To be honest I thought Hilda had died long before 2005, but hey!

Thanks

Hi Terry
a few years ago I was i contact with a man researching the same family of Jermyn's.  I have a copy of Edward Jermyn and Betsy Prout's wedding certificate.  Edward's father was John Jermyn who was born in Clonakilty, Southern Ireland in 1787, he married Ann Waugh b. 1788 who came from the Seven Heads (near Clonakilty) and they had 8 children most of whom were born in Ireland.  John and Ann moved to Padstow.  He was a Coastguard and lost his life at sea in 1833 (not sure of this date).  I am not sure if this is old news for you but I do have more info if it helps

Andrew

John Jermyn died 17 September 1833 whist working at Bude Coastguard Station.
