Family Mystery!! Please Help!
« on: Tuesday 01 November 11 11:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

Got a bit of a family mystery to solve and was wondering if anyone can shed any light.

A family member's father confessed on his deathbed that he had lived his whole life using a stolen identity.  And gave his children copies of his real birth and baptism certificates and said they could change their names to their real name if they want to.

We are now trying to find out more information on his family as he was actually adopted.

The information on the birth certificate is:
Born 1915 14th December at 108 My Lady's Road Belfast.
Name: Joseph Vincent O'reilly
Father: Joseph O'reilly of 108 My Lady's Road
Mother: Mary O'reilly Formally Ayrs
Fathers Occupation: Army Volunteer
Present at birth Mary McCaffrey 19 Ballarat St.
Birth Registered: 29th December 1915

The information on the Baptism certificate is similar:
Date of Baptism: 17th December 1915
Date  of Birth: 14th December 1915
Name of child: Joseph Vincent O'reilly
Name of Father: Joseph O'reilly
Name of Mother Mary Ayrs
Name of Sponsers: Mary McCaffrey.

We are trying to find the marriage certificate of Mary Ayrs and Joseph O'reilly and also any information on theirs lives or his army career.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Teresa

here's the address on the 1911 census - no sign of the surnames at that stage

Lee household, 108 My Lady's Road

(the site numbers and street numbers dont match for this street - see the reverse of Form A)

The nearest marriage I can find is:

Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes, 1845-1958 for Joseph Reilly

name:   Joseph Reilly
registration district:   Dublin North
event type:   MARRIAGES
registration quarter and year:   Jan - Mar 1915
volume number:   2
page number:   557

Corresponding with:
Mary Ellen Ayres same vol and page.
Might be worth spending 4 Euros to see if you strike lucky. I did a limited search from 1900 to 1915, so you may wish to do a more extended trawl. There are relatively few mary A's even allowing for spelling variations.

Did the person who died give any other details, and what name did he live under, etc?

He stole a birth certificate from a friend to join the army and lived by the surname of Ferrin.

We know he grew up in an orphanage but do not know which one or why.

Maybe his father died in the first world war?

Many thanks for that shall pass on the information to my relative.  Where is it possible to buy the record from?

Terri

Try Google Maps for 108 My Lady's Road, Belfast, United Kingdom
Looks as if the original house is still possibly standing. There is an interesting mural at the end of the road, on junction with Canada St

Seems to give regiments, WW1 which would narrow your search. i know little about these murals, so perhaps someone with info about Volunteers might be able to help.

Couple more possible Marys  in both 1901 and 1911, but we don't know if she was Irish, on the info so far, or if I have the right marriage. but the one you found is the best match.
