Manchester Wills from 1837
« on: Friday 04 November 11 14:51 GMT (UK) »
I know that Stephen Hogg, a cotton spinner of Newton in Manchester died in 1836 and left a will which was proved in 1837.  It has been microfilmed  by the Latterday Saints.

Does anyone know if Manchester wills from this date are available at one of the record offices for Manchester or Lancashire and whether I could order one online or by post?

Try Lancashire Record Office. If they have it they will do a copy for you and post it out. The charge will be according to the number of pages.

Thank you for that, Gibel.  I have looked at Lancs records website and they do say to email them to ask about the records they hold, so I will do that and see what they say.

UPDATE

I have now had a reply from Lancs Record Office in Preston to say they do have a copy of the will from 1837, and will post a copy to me on receipt of £5.
