Elizabeth Willis and Benjamin Cooper
« on: Friday 04 November 11 15:42 GMT (UK) »
Hello.  I am trying to find out the background on whom I believe are my great, great, great grandparents.  Elizabeth Willis married Benjamin Walton Cooper at St. Martin's in 1818 in Birmingham. I am trying to ascertain their birth dates and their parents if possible. We believe they had one son, William Cooper, baptised in 1821 at St. Martin's before they relocated to Wrexham Wales.  I would love to know why they relocated, but understand their is only so much we can find from records!  If anyone has any access to finding out more about them, I would appreciate it!!

I'm not sure.  It is possible that Elizabeth died in Wrexham in 1829 as there is a parish record of an Elizabeth Cooper, age 33.  We do not know what happened to Benjamin Walton Cooper.  We know his son William married and had his children in Wrexham, Wales.  In the 1841 census, we find William living in Wrexham, but not with Benjamin Walton.  We also know Benjamin and Elizabeth had a 2nd son in 1824 in Wrexham named Benjamin Walter, who also was not living with Benjamin Sr in 1841.  So, either Benjamin Sr died, remarried, or maybe moved back to Birmingham before 1841 (though many of the 1841 census records are missing from Wrexham).  We also know Benjamin Sr was a wine/spirit merchant in Wrexham before he went bankrupt in 1825.

These people are on "family search"

There may be a spelling mistake but the following are listed:-

Benjamin Worton Cooper, christened 8th Mar 1797 St Martins, Birmingham.

Elizabeth Ann Willis, christened 16th July 1790 at St Phillips, Birmingham.

It lists William Cooper and Nancey as parents of Benjamin and Samuel Willis and Jane as parents for Elizabeth.

Regards, John.

Further to my previous, Benjamin's father is listed so:-

William Cooper Married Nancy Walton at St Phillips, Birmingham, 25th June 1790.

So I guess you now know where the Walton came from. Regards, John.
