And Elizabeth McDonald's baptism (from OPRs)~

21 March 1826 St Ninians
Elizabeth d/o Alexander McDonald and Elizabeth Galbraith
(so that's where the Galbraith came from on the 1923 death cert!)

Adam and Mary had the following children baptised at St Ninians~

26 Sept 1805 Jean
16 June 1807 William
8 Jan 1809 Alexander
12 Jan 1810 Margaret
1 April 1812 Mary
9 June 1822 Peter
11 May 1825 James

I'm not sure about the Adam on Mary's death cert - no baptism showing but there is an Adam (b.c. 1815) who looks very much as if it is him on the 1851 census:

Bannockburn
Adam Cowan, 36, carpet weaver, b. St Ninians
Margaret, wife, 35, b. -do-
Adam, son, 4 mths, b. -do-

There is a big gap (1812-1822) so I'll do some more checks on baptisms tomorrow  (later today!)

William Cowan and Margaret McGregor married/banns in St Ninians on 12 Jan 1777.

They had the following children baptised in St Ninians

25 Dec 1777 Adam
25 May 1779 Margaret
15 May 1782 John
10 Jan 1884 William
6 Dec 1785 Catharine
16 Nov 1788 Jean

A possible baptism for Margaret (and NOTE it is only a possible) ~
St Ninians 30 Dec 1759 Margaret d/o John McGregor and Christian Balfour

And a possible baptism for William (same caution as above applies)
St Ninians 31 Dec 1745 William s/o Adam Cowan and Jane Monteith

My grandmother was Elizabeth Galbraith McDonald Cowan and I wondered where the Galbraith and McDonald came from but it is obvious that she was named after her grandmother who was named from her mother Elizabeth Galbraith (McDonald).
