1841 - Thomas DANIEL or DAVIES
« on: Monday 07 November 11 17:39 GMT (UK) »
Thomas DANIEL(S) m Ann PRICE in 1828 at Llangammarch. Some time later, he changed his surname to DAVIES. I don't know which surname he was using in 1841. I have a record for a possible match with the surname DAVIES in 1365/bk14b/f17/p10. Is there a match to the surname DANIEL(S) or are there any other matches to the surname DAVIES?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

You would need to give us something more concrete to work from

Names of children born before 1841 - birthyears - birthplaces

Where was Thomas born and when

According to an old family bible,
"Thomas Daniel, the son of John Daniel
Bwlch tue thre, Llangammarch, was baptized by me,
July 20th 1802, Isaac Price, Dissenting Minister"
Ann PRICE was bap 1 Sep 1811 in Llangammarch.
If the name-change happened before 1831, then, according to the IGI, Margaret DAVIES was b 1831, Mary b 1834 and John b 1835. If the name-change was much later, the only certainty is that Joshua DAVIES was b 17 May 1856. I have been unable to find any DANIEL(S) children.
Sorry to be so vague, but I'm worried that the details I have might concern the wrong family.

there's an interesting NLW will from 1825 which may be related. The will of Thomas Daniel of Penheurwen in Llangamarch mentions his wife Elizabeth, son John Daniel of Cwmbychan, sons Daniel Davies, Isaac Davies, Joshue Davies, Samuel Davies (executor of the will) & married daughter Ann (her surname is under a crease)

Wondering if the John mentioned is the father of your Thomas?

Very many thanks for all the work. I had hoped that Thomas DANIEL would have appeared somewhere in the 1841, but you have confirmed what I had suspected, i.e. he changed his surname at some time between his marrying in 1828 and the 1841 census.
I now have to try to sort out his parents, but that's another story.
Thanks again.

I forgot about the will. This sounds very interesting - how do I access it?
