Elijah Sanderson Dalton in Furness area
« on: Sunday 08 May 05 23:04 BST (UK) »
My great grandfather was a signalman on the Dalton in Furness line and the last mention I have of him is in the 1901 census He was 55 retired and married to his second wife, Florrie Wells.
They lived at 9 Little Mill which I have been told were railway cottages(?) My grandfather was born here. His mother was Elizabeth but she died between 1891 and 1901 She was 47 in 1891. If anyone can give any further information I would be very grateful
I have been unable to trace his or his wife's death and wondered which graveyard he would be in as I would like to visit the area this summer

Elijah Sanderson
My great grandfather lived in Dalton and worked on the railway there and my grandfather was born there.  I have just come across an In Memoriam card in amongst my fathers things. Apparently he died on January 28th 1904 after an accident on the Furness railway the previous day and although I have tried to find out about it I am unable to discover what the accident that Elijah had was. I wondered if anyone local would know how I could find out what happened.

I found a newspaper article , hewas buried in Dalton Cemetery. It was a well attended funeral. Another article reports the accident. If you or your local library has access to the Brutish Newspaper Archive you can see 5he articles yourself.

That's great? Is there a specific newspaper I need to look for?
