William Bowie born 1806 died in Old Monkland in 1878.  Widower of Helen Gray.  When did she die and who were her parents?.  Williams father was also William and his mother was Margaret Pollock.  Any further details most welcome.

Hi Scorpiom

Have you tried to follow through William and wife Helen on the censuses? This would give you a better indication of Helen's death year and approx. age to help you with searches. Hopefully she may have died after 1855 and the start of official registration in Scotland.

Hi Scorpiom

Helen Bowie (maiden surname Gray), married to William Bowie, blacksmith, died 9 September 1868 in Old Monkland of dysentery. Her parents were John Gray and Euphemia Gaylor. The informant was James Bowie, son.

Is this your Helen Bowie? If so, send me a PM with your email address and I'll forward that certificate to you.

Cheers,

Rodeo

I'm following on the tail of both Sharon and Monica, who are spot-on.

The place of death of Helen Bowie (nee Gray) is Bell's Land, Old Monkland, as cited in the 1861 census Monica posted.

Cheers,

Rodeo

Thanks a lot for info.  Don't know what a PM is or how to send it, but would love to receive Helen's death certificate
