Hi

i've been reading these again.

My ggg grandmother was Eliza Ann Bowring Robertson - later Patmore.

Many of the familhy were involved in merchant shipping including my ggrandfather.

we don't know where the Bowring came from but I'm very interested in this.  They were involved among other places with the Falkland Islands Company.  I'd love to see the the first book but sounds as if it will be rare.  I'd love to hear any more information any one has on the Bowrings.  The family had links to the London area and Perth Scotland area.

B est wishes

Hi Emms

If you can get to the Society of Genealogists in London, the book can be read there - that's where I saw it, but I only copied the pages relevant to my own ancestor.  When I googled the book, I could see that it was held in several other libraries, so there may be one close to where you are?

They certainly were an enterprising family, they only sold the CT Bowring & Co business in the 1980's I think.

I will let you know if I find any more info in the other book

Good luck

Hi Kathy

Thank you for that quick reply.

Yes, I must definitely investigate the book. I'd love to hear anything you find.

Of course these may not be Eliza's Bowring connection but I reckon they stand a very good chance and they certainly represent a very good idea of the circles the family at this stage moved in and also some of our local merchants I'm interested in who ended up in London.

Thank you again.

Best wishes

Hi Emms

Have just sent you a PM, but realised that I got something wrong - what I thought was a family tree, actually only includes direct descendants of Benjamin Bowring, who worked for the company.  So no ladies!  However, if you know any other names I may still find something.

There is one 1938 copy of the Benjamin Bowring and his Descendants on Abebooks at a hefty £127.00 plus postage from Canada.

Thanks James!

yes, I think I have seen that one - the sheapest I could see one for was $185 AUD.  Which is still very hefty!!
Would be a very good book to have though.

Hi Emms - been a while, but I had to tell you this:

Someone has put the book about Benjamin Bowring online -
 http://collections.mun.ca/PDFs/cns/BenjaminBowringandHisDescendants1938.pdf

I downloaded it last night (free) and it took AGES but is well worth it.
