It looks as though they were sisters.
Go to here (the official 1911 census) http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx
Select advanced search
Put Woombell in the surname box
County Bedfordshire
Other members of household, put first name Lilly
search

this will bring up others in the household with Lilly  (Edith L L )

Hi Stephen

Yes, I'm confident that Edith Lilian and Ivy Gladys were sisters and that Ivy Gladys married Eric Maltby. Whilst the sisters seemed to use their middle names rather than their first names I'm sure they were the family in 1911 that I gave you details of in my earlier message, father JW, Lilly and Glaids (sic).

JW and Arthur both living in Luton at various times and both born in Nottingham were brothers.

David

Hi Stephenm
My maiden name was Womble and the John Webster Woombells go back some way.  I think the eldest sons were for many years called John Webster.  The first one seems to have been born around 1784 in Wellow Notts - Father William Wombwell married Anne Webster.  The spelling has changed a lot - he was listed as Wombwell then.  I have yet to find the missing link with our families but I am fairly sure there will be one somewhere.  My tree is on Ancestry under my user name fostercrew if you are interested.  It might be useful to swap info.

Good luck searching
