Genes Reunited replies
« on: Wednesday 16 November 11 17:34 GMT (UK) »
I wish I had a pound for every time GR has been in a post heading on Rootschat!  ;)

I've been looking for matches on GR lately and as a result have sent a number of messages to GR members. I haven't had one reply! I know there can be all sorts of reasons - people being ill, away on holiday or even sadly deceased during their membership - but for none of them to reply seems really strange. I assume the trees are removed from GR if people discontinue their membership so that the matches wouldn't appear.

Maybe it's just me, Billy No Mates  :'(

Hi Roobarb,

Have you checked to see if they have opened the Contact message you sent to them?

I take it that I am being ignored if I see it has been opened and I don't receive a reply :-X

I have a picture of someone's great-grandfather and they ignore me.

It's one of those things.

Hi Roobarb

As far as I know, a tree appears on GR forever.
Since the site has no 'last logged on/active' indicator it's impossible to know if a person is still alive and kicking or has changed their email address or simply lost all interest in genealogy (or just doesn't want to reply to you  ;) )

I agree, it's very frustrating when you find a good match and get no reply but there's nothing you can do about it.

Ambers

I hadn't Ambers but I have now! One has opened it, the others haven't. One of the ones who hasn't is one I particularly wanted a reply from because I've struggled to find any contacts for that part of the family.

How silly if GR leaves the trees on forever, the whole point of it surely is for us to be able to contact the people that the trees belong to.  >:(

And just as silly are people who don't bother to reply. Why put your tree on a site called Genes Reunited if you don't want to make contact?  ???

Roobarb, I've been on GR for years ... but for the last fifteen months or so, I haven't been getting any notifications; no Hot Matches, no messages in my inbox  :-\

I only really know what's going on if I remember to go look, every so often.

Thinking about it now Deb, neither have I ???

Surprising really as I have added many new surnames from marriages and births from the 1911 census, so there should at least be a few.

I only have basic membership, maybe this has something to do with it these days.

Actually, now you come to mention it I used to be inundated with hot matches but I don't recall having any lately. I got a November newsletter from them today but other than that it makes you wonder if anyone is getting emails to tell them they have a message.

Haven't they got to be paid members to receive and reply to messages?
