I am trying to find James Henderson's date of death, he was born 1870 Oxnam, Roxburghshire, his parents were George Henderson and Mary Laidlaw. I know he emigrated to Canada, his brother was born 1887 and died 1917, ww1, in France. If David had survived the war he was emigrating as well, so it would be roughly 1910 to 1917.

Have you checked the Scottish 1911 census to see if he is on it?   www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Have you checked the free index at http://www.ancestorsonboard.com/HomePageController.action to see if there is an entry which would give you the year he emigrated

If you know for certain that he emigrated - won't he have died in Canada and not Roxburgh?

Hi Ann

You might have more luck with this enquiry if you asked a Moderator to move it to the Canada Board as that is most likely where your man died, as CaroleW has mentioned.

Cheers

Hi Ann

I'm a bit perplexed here as you say that James emigrated to Canada and his brother was going to join him.

Did James die in Canada or did he return to Roxburghshire and die there?

Maybe checking the passenger lists, as Carole suggests, or checking the 1901/1911 Canadian censuses might give more info.

There is an outside possible on the Canadian 1911 in Ontario, He was married to an Annie

I have looked at the 1901 census on ancestry, he doesn't appear on it, but on the 1891 census he is a boarder, he must have emigrated between 1892 and 1901, before the census was recorded. I also looked at the 1871 census he wasn't on that one either.

Hi Ann

There are three possibles that I can see on the 1901 in Canada - one in Toronto, Ontario and 2 in Manitoba.

Do you have anything else  that might help identify him?

I don't unfortunately. I have sent a message via roots to the Canadian site, hoping to get a reply.
