Campbell family (Cleator Moor & Whitehaven) [Completed]

Campbell family (Cleator Moor & Whitehaven)

Can anyone assist with filling in some gaps of the Campbell family from the Cleator Moor & Whitehaven area (late 19th / early 20th C) please? The reason is research for a 'Roll of Honour'.

During WW1 brothers Joseph and Bernard Campbell (Cleator / Cleator Moor) died serving in the Forces. Can anyone find these Joseph and Bernard on the 1901 census and / or the 1911 census to determine the names of their parents? Were there another two brothers called Patrick and Jonathan?

Joseph Campbell served with the 6th Battalion, The Border Regiment (died 07.06.1917).
Bernard Campbell served with 200th Battalion, Machine Gun Corps, originally with the Loyal N. Lancs. Regt (died 27.10.1918).

Bernard and Joseph Campbell are listed on the St Mary's, Cleator WW1 war memorial.

During WW2 another Bernard Campbell died serving in the Forces. At the time this Bernard campbell was living with an uncle and aunt (Mr and Mrs Jonathan Campbell) at Woodhouse, Whitehaven. The CWGC lists Bernard Campbell's parents as Patrick and Sarah Ann Campbell of Halifax, West Yorkshire. He was 22 years old.

Bernard Campbell served with the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment (died in Burma, 13.08.1944)

This Bernard Campbell is listed in the Whitehaven WW2 'Book of Remembrance'.

It is believed he was a parishioner of St Begh's R.C. parish, Whitehaven. By the time of Private Campbell's death Woodhouse would have been in St Mary's R.C. parish, Kells.

Is anyone able to see a family connection between the Cleator Moor and Whitehaven Campbells please?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Thanks for the replies. It seems to be fitting together.

In February 1947 Jonathan Campbell of Woodhouse, Whitehaven died aged 51. So he fits to the Cleator Moor Campbells. We know he was the uncle of the Bernard Campbell who died in Italy in 1944.

There was a Patrick Campbell married to Sarah A. Lowe (possibly a widow?) at Halifax in 1922. A Bernard Campbell was born at Halifax shortly afterwards. The details seem to fit with the Bernard Campbell whose home was with his uncle and aunt at Whitehaven in 1944.

At least this is a good start to confirming the details.

There was a Patrick Campbell married to Sarah A. Lowe (possibly a widow?) at Halifax in 1922.

It looks like she was a widow, as Bernie's mothers maiden name was Donnelly

Births Sep 1922
CAMPBELL    Bernard   (Donnelly)    Halifax    9a   662

 ... but I can't see a marriage for a Sarah DONNELLY to a LOWE ???

Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.
