Thanks again for looking into this.

I have e-mailed the researcher link from Rootsweb but not sure if contact details still current.

The Hantsweb link looks very promising - does 'Administration and Bond' equate to a will and therefore suggest that Richard died in 1830? -  a year after Herbert Hutchins was born.
Richard is noted as deceased on the MC of 1855.

If he is indeed the deceased then that rules out idea of him emigrating to America!  - having revisited the info I have on the US link I think that must be a different Hutchins family.

Does anyone have any insight into how much info such a document would reveal - it seems from the Archives website that I could order a copy for £5.  Would it just be an agreement to administer the will or would it contain details of family members and instructions as would a standard will?

Out of interest... (more in hope!)

Is there anyone who visits the records office at Winchester who could take a look at the bond and/or baptism of Hutchins family to see what they reveal about Richard Hutchins?   ;)

Looking on FindMyPast there is a Richard Hutchins who died Lymington in 1830 - presume this is same as the Admin & Bond.

The burial record states that he was 56 yrs at death meaning 1874 dob.  Could he have married Jane HOUSE (maybe a second marriage) in 1818 at 44 yrs or is there a son called Richard who is her spouse.

A search of births in the area gives Richard, son of Richard Hutchins (& Sarah), born 1798 in Laverstoke/Alverstoke Hampshire - but these places just seem a little distant from Lymington for a settled Blacksmith & family.

Now I feel the need to view the baptism, marriage and will records mentioned in this post is my best or only chance of progressing this search.

Is anyone nearer (I'm 400 miles away) prepared to take a look ... please please?
or should I post this request on another thread?

The Administration and Bond for Richard Hutchins, Blacksmith of Lymington - deceased intestate - is made to JANE Hutchins - widow and relict - in July 1830.  It is signed in the presence of Robert Hutchins, Blacksmith of Lymington.

Does this imply anything - other than suggesting that Jane HOUSE was the spouse of Richard HUTCHINS in 1818 as posted previously?

Any insights very welcome... :-\

Might be a coincident but my GGG Grandfather Thomas Stickland was apprenticed in 1826 in Lymington to a blacksmith named Richard Hutchins.

This has me interested, I see that Richard Hutchins died in 1830, this was half way through my ancestors apprenticeship. I am in possession of a copy of both his (Thomas Stickland) indenture papers and a letter of declaration from the Justices of the Peace in Lymington regarding him being apprenticed to Richard Hutchins, who is named on both documents.
Regards your comment on people moving distances to relocate, during the period 1756 until 1814/5
Lymington was a garrisoned town, due to fear of invasion by revolutionary France, these units included the South Hants Militia, so somebody moving up the coast from Alverstoke(Gosport) would not be unusual, especially as Blacksmiths would have been in demand here, ie in 1784 the 1st Dragoon Guards were stationed in Lymington.
My interest in your ancestor resides in the interest I have in my Lymington family  particularly Thomas Stickland who went from being born in the poorhouse to running his own Blacksmith business as well at some time being a Publican, and the fact that I still live in Lymington where my family have been for at least 260 yrs.
Hope this is of some help or interest.
