Where to go next with ancestor?
« on: Friday 18 November 11 20:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

I am trying to find out more about an ancestor. Her name was Alice O'connor and she married a Frederick Bolt. They were married in 1909 in a Catholic church in Kensington. I have the marriage cert. It gives her fathers name as Patrick Joseph O'connor and his job was labourer. I have also found what I believe is her death, in Ipswich in 1974. The death record gives her name as Alice Theresa Bolt and dob as 28 August 1887. I know the family moved to Ipswich which is why I believe it to be the correct one. With this info, where do I go from here?

Thanks

Pollard Cornwall
Willoughby Oxfordshire
Whatton Staffordshire/Leicestershire
Knifton Leicestershire/Nottinghamshire

Tuohy Galway
Costello Galway

Hi samhuzz

Does her age on the marriage cert agree with the age at death?

Have you found her yet on 1911? As this would tell you where she was born.

You can freely search for her here (use the full advanced search functions):
http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx?4

When you find her in the above search, then locate her on this one, which will show her as-stated place of birth:

Hi again

To take other avenues of searches:

Who  were the witness' on the marriage certificate?
And husband Frederick - what was his age, occupation and father's name/occupation?

Cheers

I have also found what I believe is her death, in Ipswich in 1974. The death record gives her name as Alice Theresa Bolt and dob as 28 August 1887. Thanks

An alternate death:
Alice T Bolt
Wandsworth, London
April-June Qtr 1954
63 years - fits with being born in 1887
Vol 5D

Alison

Second thoughts - this might be Frederick Bolt who married Alice Hilda Tubb in 1907 in Preston, SSX

I've just found another thread by you on this couple. It would be easier if you linked them.  It saves people time researching the same information.

Hi Sam

You have now posted this request on 4 previous occassions

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,398311.0.html

(Valda suggested Wandsworth prison records)

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,397851.0.html

(Valda suggested Kensington workhouse records)

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,404319.0.html

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,497021.0.html

Before we offer you anymore help, can you please tell us which of the suggestions Valda made have been followed up?

Have you ever ordered a copy of the 1974 death certificate? This may hold more information than the death index gives.

Maybe you should also consider buying the other one from 1954 if the 1974 one is wrong.
