Anyone offer a possible date for this Belfast photo.
« on: Tuesday 22 November 11 08:54 GMT (UK) »
This photo has been in my mothers family (Proudfoot) for years it was always thought to be of some of the family on an outing, however I recently discovered that a grandfather of an aunt was listed in a Belfast Telephone directory as a Cab Proprietor.  He was William Tedford from 221 Holywood Rd. Belfast.  He was about from 1848 to 1912.  I'm afraid I don't have the actual photo here with me just my scan so no edges/corners, there was no card and I'm sure there was nothing on the back.  The Proudfoots lived around the Dee/Mersey St, Park Ave, Sydnenham Ave area of Belfast.  I'll post it to two areas Photo Dating and one of the old Belfast posts, so any help on the photos date or perhaps someone may even have some other facts.  Any help appreciated, thanks, Gerry.
Ps. Do you think the driver and William are the same person?

I don't think the driver is William - the face shape seems wrong to me.

The vehicle in the photograph is a jaunting car - very popular in Ireland in the nineteenth century.

Gerry I would change the tile of your post by using the modify button and add a request for a date to bring it to the attention of the daters on here...What a lovely postcard....not sure they are the same person though :-\

Very interesting photo - I wonder why the eyes of the three people standing appear to have been covered!     Or are my eyes deceiving me?   When enlarged they seem to have white strips across their faces!

I'm not sure what you mean by covered, Wiggy ?

Sorry, you've added to your reply since I read it. I think they look like marks or scratches on the picture.

You don't think that's just the subjects moving their heads?  the photo really is a mess, probably saved from the rubbish by my mum.  The chap on the left is apparently my great grandfather and I know of no animosity in the family that might cause him to be covered up.  Any Belfast people think this might be Kellys Bar which used to be in that area?

Regards, Gerry.
