Will - 1832, Exning
« on: Wednesday 23 November 11 16:59 GMT (UK) »
I am hoping desperately that John Butcher left a will. He died in 1832 in Exning, and I believe his widow Elizabeth died in 1834.

He did not leave a PCC will, so I assume a will (if it exists) would be at Suffolk records office. Is there any online index, or is someone able to check for me whether there is one?

Thanks

Alexander

I checked on NROCAT and whilst they have quite a few records for Exning, there's nothing relating to a John Butcher, I'm afraid.

Thanks for checking there, GS. Is that site supposed to include all wills that would be in the Exning area - or might there still be a will at Suffolk records office?

I don't have any other ancestors from this part of the country, so please forgive my ignorance....

Thanks

Alexander

Hi Rick,

A few days ago I did send an email to Bury records office. They kindly responded, having checked the Archdeaconry of Sudbury wills for me, but sadly did not find a will for John or his wife. :( They suggested trying Cambridge RO since Exning is right on the border, so I'll follow that up. Though I think it's more than likely that John just didn't leave a will.

Thanks
Alexander
