Freddy Horsfall, living Southsea 1941
« on: Friday 25 November 11 18:23 GMT (UK) »
Looking for any leads on FREDDY (or Fred) HORSFALL, born Rochdale, Lancs 1888. He had a long career in the Royal Marine Artillery. On his discharge in 1941 his address was recorded as 38 Wimbourne Road, Southsea. His wife's name was Isabella. I don't know when and where either of them died, nor whether there were children. Freddy was my grandmother's brother - in his early days in the services he was very close to his Rochdale family, though at some point he seems to have lost touch.
Any information or suggestions welcome IAN in Cornwall

Many thanks for those - I'll check them out. My initial feeling was that Freddy would have stayed in Hants, his base for much of his adult life, and the home of his wife. But - you never know.

I am most grateful to those who have responded to my posting, on-list and via PM. Freddy was born 22 Oct 1888 in Rochdale, and married Isabella williams in Portsmouth, February 1919 (FreeBMD misspells his surname as 'Horsfal')
His future wife Isabella is listed in the 1911 census as a shop assistant living with her widowed mother 16 Victory Road, Portsea.
The Portsmouth death in 1969 sounded promising - though I'd never heard that Freddy had a middle initial. However, in 1969 he would have been 81 or thereabouts. Definitely worth exploring further.
Many thanks IAN
