Findlater Portsoy
« on: Saturday 26 November 11 07:32 GMT (UK) »
Hallo,

I am looking for any information on an establishment/shop/pub owned by Findlater in Portsoy.

When did it open or close. I am assuming the shop was around late 1800`s early 1900`s
What kind of shop was it, what street was it in?

Any clue to the existence of the shop/pub/establishment would be helpful.

Any info will help.
Many thanks

Hi Ogleway

Could you put Peter  & your search for him into some sort of context for us,  it may help us find what you are looking for? For example where does he pop up in your research, and how - what pre-empts  the posting of this topic?

"Peter" and "Patrick" were often interchangable  - particulary so if there was an Irish ancestry; an Irish "Patrick" often became (or his namesaked decendants did),  "Peter" in Scotland.

There is a Patrick FINDLATER in Portsoy in 1901. And found here:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=gg_perry27&id=I800
Born 8 Mar  1869 in Highfield, Fordyce, Banff. Scotland
An Aerated Water Manufacturer in 1901, living with his mother Helen nee CRUICKSHANK.

Cheers
AMBLY

Ambly thanks for your reply.

It is actually the establishment (not the person) I am trying to pin down and only for an estimation of time. A passing mention of it is in a family story but no date given.

However the information and link you gave may help as they might have had a shop outlet and that would fit.

You could try contacting the Portsoy Salmon Bothy (deals with Portsoy heritage not just salmon fishing). Email: contact[replace with 'at' symbol]salmonbothy.co.uk

I will be trying to find out any history on Durn House in Portsoy, where we live. The house was built in 1770 although there has been a house on the same site since the 1500's
