Where is/was the Palace of Ecuraish/Ecusaish
« on: Sunday 27 November 11 11:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi ,
Can anyone tell me where the Palace of Ecuraish or maybe Ecusaish was. I have been sent a photocopy of a painting done by an ancestor in 1823 - the writing is a little difficult to read, but would love to know where he had travelled to in order to paint it - a very mountainous region, but a poor copy in black & white gives little away to me.
Cheers.

Googling Ecusaish gives 3 returns, one of which is your query and one is in a strange language.

The other two seem to have something to do with some sort of episcopal religion/s in America.

Hi

I had something similar to Dawn with both spellings.

Is it possible for you to put a snip up of the writing so that we might be able to interpret what it says.

Alternativiely it could be an entirely fictitious name to convey a sense of a place.

Sorry, I cannot put up the original as I only have the wording that the lady who has the pictures transcribed it as - she wasn't sure.  I shall probably never get to see the original & she is not computer literate to ask for a scan. However, I am in contact with a cousin of hers now, so I might enquire if he has more knowledge of the artists travels - tho' I doubt it somehow.
Thank you for your time.

Is it possibly Asturias, a mountainous region in Spain?  A Google search threw up a guide which says there are a number of Palaces in the region.

When I first saw the name, it rang a distant bell for something out of the old testament. Are there any masonic connections to your ancestor?

A doctor trained in Edinburgh? He could well be a mason.  :)
