Hi and welcome to RootsChat  :)

From details mentioned earlier by christineyvonnem, the 1911 census showed:

1911 Alexander Ritchie and Jessie Smith are living with 2 of their sons William and John in Rosehearty.  It says they have 9 kids 7 still alive.

Alexander Ritchie and Jessie Smith 2 kids did not die as babies if the births were registered at Pitsligo and there are not living with their parents in the census's.

Their grandson Alexander and his wife Helen Hutchison had 5 children baptised on the same day.  The baptism book shows the eldest 2, Alfred died 1965 and Aileen died 2008 were adopted.

Hi I am new to this forum but is the Alexander Ritchie / Christian Watt referred to Alexander 1846 - 1915, Christian Watt 1847 - 1911?  I also notice a James Ritchie who died in the war, an elderly relative now deceased told me that Christian Watt,s father and two brothers were lost at sea, could this be the same james and if so do you know who the other brother was?  David Ritchie

Hi David,

The Alexander Ritchie you are referring to is the correct one, born in 1841 and died in 1915, though his wife Jessie Smith was born in 1846 and also died in 1945. As for Christian Watt, she died in 1890 though I'm afraid I'm not sure if her father and brothers were lost at sea, but if her husband was James then I imagine that it could be the same person.

James Ritchie (Alex and Jessie's son) died in 1917, his brother William was also lost at sea in 1911. Their nephew George Ritchie (my great-granda's brother) who was from Buckie/Fraserburgh died in the Second World War. This was quite a loss for the Ritchie family. I'll try and do some research on Christian Watt's family and see if I can find anything. May I ask how you are related to these Ritchie's?

Thanks,

Greg

Hello all

I have read these posts with great interest. I am trying to locate information on Catherine Birnie Ritchie Strachan. I believe she came from Fraserburg as she travelled there in 1923 and stayed at 3 Firthside Street. Her death records shows that she was born in Scotland but as yet, I have not found any birth record.
Her birth would have been around 1895

I am wondering if there is any link with "Mary married James Strachan and William Ritchie"

Any assistance or information would be appreciated
Thanks

Some Ancestry trees appear to have her birth on 30 Jan 1895 in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. ( Parents William Strachan and Maggie Ritchie).

A free search on Scotland's People certainly has a birth entry showing as Strachan Catherine Ritch in Peterhead Ref 232 / 1 /75. Suggest you purchase this birth cert. to make sure it is the one you are looking for.

It is also worth looking at the valuation rolls on Scotland's People . A free search shows that in 1920 the Tenant/ Occupier at 3 Firthside Street was Margaret Strachan. She is not recorded there in the 1925 valuation roll .

Ancestry have  Aberdeeenshire electoral rolls for this period . Margaret Strachan is recorded at 3 Frithside Street in the 1923 electoral roll ( I assume that this is the same street/ typo?).

William

Added: It is 3 Frithside Street on the valuation roll as well.
