Just an observation, the Florence Ellen 1895/2881 listed in the marriages post #3 , could possibly be a sister of your Charles married 1890.

I think Charles came out to New Zealand on his own in about 1885. The rest of the family split up after his mother's untimely death in 1862.

There were Gibbards on South Island from about 1850, in business etc, that came from Oxfordshire, Berkshire area of England. This could be one of them. I'm following up on a step-sister of Charles Gibbard following him out to New Zealand.
I have discovered that William, a son of Charles, was in fact married to Delicia Russell ? and they had children. So more to follow up in the BMD records I guess. In order to get at electoral rolls for NZ I have to pay a substantial premium to Ancestry over my existing subscription, so I guess I will leave that until our depression here blows over (sometime in 2125 apparently!)
Thanks again for your help it is much appreciated.
