Henry MCKENZIE bapt 26 Sep 1762 Billingham, Durham son of Henry
« on: Friday 02 December 11 16:44 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am trying to prove that Henry McKenzie bapt 26 Sep 1762 at Billingham, Durham the son of Henry is 'my' Henry who ended up in Carlisle, Cumberland.

All the McKenzies on my direct family tree are called Henry!

I know that Henry bapt 1762 died in Carlisle but where did his father Henry die?

Would the parish records show what the father's occupation was?

Thanks

Hi there

Just found the christening of Henry born 1762 and it does state
that his Father is also called Henry, but the surname is not
spelt correctly.  It is down as MECHENZIE which might be the
reason why you are finding it hard to find what you want.
I dont think there were any great spellers in those days lol
so the names were often phonetically spelt.
I will see if I can find his death but have you any idea when he died?

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. MECHENZIE is a new spelling! The son Henry was down as KENZIE when he was in Carlisle. I think they could have had a Scotish accent. In fact I am trying to find out where they came from in Scotland and am hoping that by finding out what the father's occupation was might give me a clue.

I don't know when Henry snr. died but there doesn't seem to be a death in Cumberland (under McKenzie)  that I know of.

Hi again
Forgot to mention the christening of Henry was 26th September 1762 but
it doesnt say where apart from Billingham, no Church?

Did find another Henry McKenzie marrying in Carlisle but dont know if
its the same one born 1762.
Henry McKenzie married Jane Topping on 16th September 1812
in St Cuthberts,  Carlisle,  This would make him 50years old so
could be a second marriage or the son of the 1762 Henry?

Henry and Jane had a few children all baptised at St Cuthberts
Mary bpt 21st July 1816  **
Charles bpt 10th September 1820 at St Cuthberts
Mary Jane bpt 23rd December 1827
Jane bpt 21st July 1833
Sarah bpt 14th November 1830
Robert bpt 15th May 1836

**Mary  died 18th April 1818
and buried at St Marys Carlisle

I have just found some more children of a Henry McKenzie
with different Mother

Jane bpt 6th July 1800 at  Maryport,
Suzanna bpt 26th December 1802 at St Cuthberts
Jane bpt 26th December 1802  at St Cuthberts, called McKinzie
Sarah McKenzie bpt 7th July 1805 at St Cuthberts called McKinzie
parents
Henry and Barbara Charles

regards Sandymc

p.s. Think this is another child for Henry and Barbara Charles

Dear Sandy,

Thanks for your message.

The Henry McKenzie who married Barbara Charles is the one I think was born 1762 in Billington and this is what I want to prove.

I have most of the details that you sent about the 'Henrys' in Carlisle but didn't have the death of Mary 1818.

Thanks
