where was he referred to as Collet ? - the Collet name seemed to have arisen with Jacques Collet - so much more French than his baptismal name of James Corlett ! and much more convenient to avoid impressment by claiming to ne either American (his bro Thomas emigrated to New York where I think he captained vessels on the Liverpool/USA trade and whose citizenship James/Jacques acquired as honary consul in Pas de Calais area) or French - Jacques made quite a bit of money in running contraband material as well as being known as a French Corsair - enough to buy a small chateau just after the revolution and to leave quite a bit to his nephew who assumed name Collet (and was I think gfa to the Collets associated with governorship of bank of England)
any thing with a Manx Connection
