James SMITH B. 1821 Bath, Somerest
« on: Monday 05 December 11 23:53 GMT (UK) »
 :)Hello.

Can anyone advise me on how to find JAMES SMITH he was born in 1821 in Bath, Somerset.   ::)

By the 1841 census he was married and living in Eglwysilan, Glamorganshire.

He stayed in Wales, raised a family and died there.

So all I have about him is in the title of this post!

Any advice gratefully received.

Thank you,  :)
Abiam2

He must have married after 1837 so a copy of his marriage cert will give you his fathers name.

Hi,
Thanks, having spent hours trying to find him I think you are right that will be the only way. :(

I have found his marriage to Ann Davies Dec 1839.

Cash outlay before Christmas?   :'(

Cheers,

Hello Abiam2,

Whilst you are saving your pennies  ;D you might care to try Freereg which does have a baptism of a James Smith in Bath close to the year you are seeking.

St James, Bath.

25 August 1820, baptised James Smith, son of James and Charlotte Smith. Abode: Corn St. Occupation: Cooper.

There were at least several siblings baptised there too.

It might be worth bearing these in mind.

Jo.

Thank you, Jo.  ;D  I think the one you suggest is probably right.  There will be no children as he had moved to Eglwysilan Glamorganshire by 1839 and was married there so any off spring would be in Wales.  More headaches!

I have decided to order his marriage certificate - just hoping I have the right James Smith. Thanks for your help Free Reg is now in My Favourites

Hi,
William Smith Labourer
Richard Davies Boatman
James is a Boatman on the cert

I think I have William on the 1841 (no occupations) and on the 1851 census William is a butcher as are his two sons.
On the 1861 James is a Publican and butcher.  Also on the 1871 he is a butcher.

What do you think?  Or am I grasping at straws?

Where?  England or Wales?

How old is William in 1851 and where was he born and where were his 2 sons born?

Is there anything on the IGI for James and the other 2 sons that would link them as a family?
