Hi
I'm a wee bit confused as you say that Murdo(ch) was a labourer but on Mary's marriage cert(St Giles, Edinburgh, 1882), he is listed as
a joiner. Neither Murdoch nor Elizabeth are listed as deceased at that time.
I then looked at the
1871 and found this family:
7 Tower Street, Duddington, Midlothian
684/1 5 15Murdock Mckenzie, 45,
joiner NB Railway, b. Urray, Rossshire
Elizabeth, w, 46, b. Dornoch, Sutherland
Robert, s, 24, porter, NB railway, b. -do-
Donald, s, 16, plumber boy railway, b. Govan
Mary, d, 13, b. -do-
Ann, d, 10, b. -do-
Murdock, s, 9, b. England
John Campbell, boarder, 22, painter NB Railway, b. Dornoch, Sutherland
William Laas ?, boarder, 21, joiner NB railway, b. Duddington
Robert A Downie, boarder, 23, painter NB Railway, b. England
So suggest that you look around Edinburgh for them. Although, as he worked on the North British, they might have moved again.
Urray, Ross -shire is just to the north of Kilmorack which is in Invernessshire

Just been investigating it on SP, Carole - those transcriptions had got it wrong yet again re birthplaces - I don't trust them
