Hi Eds

I've found a HARRIET TYSOE of the right age with father William...wonder if the enumerator slipped up?

I just found that one and came to the same conclusion - but then found the a birth of Harriet Tysoe on freeBMD, 4q 1857, Bedford 3b, 295  :-\

Given that Harriet would have been 3 rather than 5 and is apparently recorded as Elizabeth on later censuses and there is Elizabeth age 3 in 1861  - then I wonder if the first thought of Harry age 5 being misrecorded as Harriet age 5  is more likely.

i think you might find that harriett under her middle name elizabeth on the 1871
RG10/1542/17/6
she marries a william slater in 1881
and is on the 1891 census with him

Look - on 1861 census you have BOTH 'daughters' Harriette 1856 and Elizabeth 1858 along with siblings Charles & Lucy with parents William & Elizabeth living on Bromham Green.

On 1871 Harry Tysoe age 15 servant at Cardington (and has been consistently born 1856 thru censuses 1881 - 1911), while Elizabeth age 13 is still at home in Bromham.  So if this Elizabeth is actually Harriette Elizabeth who married William Slater at Bromham on 22 June 1881 and on 1891 census is Harriette E Slater and in same household is widowed mother Elizabeth Tysoe age 72; then who is the Elizabeth on 1861 ?

I reckon it's an enumerator cock-up, he was given two names by mum & dad, ie. Harry & Elizabeth & then they possibly mentioned that she was actually Harriette Elizabeth. So that explains the birth index of Harriette, so where's the birth index of Harry, did have a second alternate name also ?

  Thanks again for your replies.
As we cant find his birth registration on BMD, it did occur to me Harry may be his middle name.
John, you may well be  the saving grace if you can confirm that submitted BP. I will then not stress so much about 1861 census.

Ta and Cheers

OK the Bromham PR baptisms verify the IGI member submissions :-
Children of William & Elizabeth Tysoe, Labourer
Charles 9 Sept 1849
Harry 18 Nov 1855, born 23 Sept 1855
Elizabeth 25 Apr 1858, born 8 Oct 1857
George 17 Dec 1859

There is also someone named, looks like,  Loung, doesn't say son or daughter, that we've taken to be Lucy. Baptised on 22 Aug 1852, born 6 May 1852.

William Tysoe married Elizabeth Collier at Bromham on 25 Mar 1849. They were both full age, both of Bromham, William's father was also William Tysoe, labourer. Elizabeth's father was Robert Collier, labourer. Witnesses were George Collier & Emma Maxey.

Regards
John

It'd be good stuff, contains 50% alcohol

OK - this daughter, most likely is named Eloney, as an Eloney Tysoe age 18 born Bromham is a servant/housemaid in Ashburnham Road, Bedford (St Pauls)on 1871 census. She married William Henry Reynolds in Dec 1873 in Bedford RD ref 3b/759. They are on 1881 census living in Wellington Street Bedford (St Peters)  with children Lizzie age 6 & Ethel M age 3

cheers John
