OKells Brewery - Dr. William OKell

Hello,

I wonder if anyone has any info on the above.  I am doing a friend's family tree, and he believes that from his line of Okells from South Cheshire, the same Dr William Okell, a Cheshire Surgeon, started Okells Brewery on the IOM in 1850.  I wonder if he had a brother Thomas?

When and where was Thomas Okell born and who were his parents?

Possible marriage but she was Margaret Chorley - not Charley

Census would be Onchan?  I drank Okells beer in IOM in my mis-spent youth.

The IOM Times, 19 April 1892, reported the funeral of a Dr OKell.

Included in the report
Inscription on the coffin -"Wm OKell, Died 12 April 1892. Aged 73 years".

"It is worthy to note that Dr OKell was the first house surgeon to the old Southern Hospital at Liverpool".

Two of the chief mourners were W H OKell and D E OKell

The IOm Times 12 April 1892 mentions Dr Okell being born in Knutsford, Cheshire

should have looked up Tim's book born 1819 knutsford s/o wm + margt eldest of 3 ch;educated shrewsbury school, house surgeon Liverpool southern in 41, practicising in Warringtom 1847, arrived IoM 48 - some connected with dutton fam - he was exec to Lionel coutier Dutton with he he resided at castle hill brewery when 1st arrived on island

Great stuff - many thanks for that.

My friend seems to think he has a link with Okells Brewery - but I'm not sure now.

I've got as far back as a Thomas Okell b about 1825 Kingsley Cheshire, m Ann Unknownname who was b about 1826.  My friends line of Okells appear to have been a few generations of farmers in the Kingsley area.  I thought that maybe this Thomas may have had a brother William, but this brewery William Okell appears to have been born in Knutford which is another part of Cheshire and so maybe from another Okell line.  I have not yet delved any further back.  Maybe I'll try the Cheshire forum as well.  Many thanks to all and best wishes for Xmas.
