William John Petty
« on: Wednesday 23 June 04 14:04 BST (UK) »
My husband's Dad- William John Petty born 30 Dec 1905 at 12 Perry Street Chatham.

WJP parents are Ellen Frances Petty (Ne: Kemp) and James John Petty (Labourer)

William John Petty orphaned at age of 10 (1915) and went to live with Aunt in East End London

WJP had brother George who died quite young.

Does anyone have any information about the place or his parents? ???

Hi there,

And welcome to RootsChat.  ;D

For information about 12 Perry Street Chatham your best bet is to post that specific question in the appropriate county board.

Have you tried looking for the parents on the 1901 census?

Hello Kazza

Thanks for your advice.  As you can probably tell I am new at this genealogy search and at the very beginning of the task.

I have looked at the 1901 census but as yet not had much luck.  There are pettys on there but I can't be sure who is who.

I'm sorry but where will I find the appropriate county board.  I have posted a query on the village site but nothing major came of that.

Thanks again

Pettyrose

Sorry,

I meant our county board,  Kent I assume,  and I should have included the link for you:

http://www.rootschat.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=20

Just click on it and you will be in the Kent board.

I had a look on the 1901 for you and I see your problem.  :(
Another thing to try is to look at the address on the 1901,  in this case it is probably worthwhile,  but this is a Pay-per-view,  and our volunteers do not usually offer this service.  ;D

I am assuming you already have WJP's birth certificate,  have you tried to find his brother's birth?

Hello again

Thank you for your assistance and the link, I have posted request on to the county board about Perry Street.  Hope its understandable.

Yes I do have WJP birth certificate and No, I have not searched for his brother's birth.  I am not sure when he was born or when he died.  All I know is that he joined the Merchant Navy and believe he died at sea and think this was in the War years.

Thanks again

If George died as a Casualty of War in the Merchant Navy then his name should appear on www.cwgc.org (commonwealth war grave commission)

 :)Hello Pauline

Thank you so much for your help.  I have searched the cwgc site and found four George Pettys but with different middle names.  No obvious information to make the connection to my William James Petty yet.

Thankyou again

Pettyrose :)
