Pearson births
« on: Thursday 29 December 11 17:37 GMT (UK) »
My first venture on this board!    The 1881 census RG11 4929 8 9 shows John and Jane Pearson with three children born in America.  Is there any way of tracing where?    William born c 1868, Jonathan c 1871 and Sarah c 1873.  I am assuming that dad was working as a miner somewhere.
Thanks,
Andrea

Welcome, Andrea, to this corner of Roots Chat.   :)

Sounds likely that they would have been in the US for the 1870 Census.  Haven't turned up a likely match yet, but you could try playing around with it here:  http://www.rootschat.com/links/0j2q/

Not sure I am going along the right track but it is strange/interesting what is unfolding  ???

1861 census for Cockfield, Durham, England

William D Willis 21 Coal-Miner
Jane Willis 20 Born Cockfield.Durham.
Elizabeth Willis 1 Month. Born Haswell. Durham.
Mary Proctor 14 Visitor born Durham.

William Dixon Willis married Jane Proctor  -  Easington. County Durhan in June 1860
10 a 415.  So Mary poctor is some sort of relative.

This could be William Willis in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1880. Born England. Parents:- England :-  Occupation:- Nurse.
Was a miner in 1870 so a drastic change of occupation  ???

This is very interesting.  In 1901  (RG13 4760 88 38) as you say, Jane is Pearson, a widow, with son John Pearson but Sarah, who is living with them, is Willis and stays so for 1911 when she has several illegitimate children.  John names a daughter Jane Procter Pearson too so that all fits in.
Will have to look at this carefully.  Fascinating!
Many thanks,
Andrea
