Thomas Dealey Bruce.
« on: Friday 30 December 11 04:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am looking for any information about Thomas Dealey Bruce, born approximately 1832 and grew up in Surrey. I have no knowledge of his parents except that his mother may be Sarah?? He left for Australia in 1849 when he was approximately seventeen.

Cheers,
Jan.

This is the only Thomas Bruce showing in the 1841 census born in Surrey
1841 HO107/1083 book 8 folio 14 page 20
Brunswick Place Christchurch Southwark Surrey
John Cockrane 48 labourer Ireland
Ellen Cockrane 40 Ireland
Henry Mortlock 34 Tailor Surrey
Sarah Mortlock 33 Surrey
William Mortlock 1 month old Surrey
Alice Bruce 9 Surrey
Thomas Bruce 9 Surrey

So is this Thomas, sister Alice and their mother Sarah who has remarried to Henry Mortlock. Or another possibility Sarah was born a Bruce.

I can't find a marriage for Sarah Bruce and Henry Mortlock 1837 - 1841 but there is one for a Robert Mortlock to sarah Bruce June 1/4 1842 Sudbury vol 12/651.  If this is them then it should give Sara's previous married name if any.

Baby William Henry Mortlock's  birth June 1/4 1841 St. Saviours vol 4/454
