Hi does anyone know where 'Charles William Nicholls' (deceased) fits in to the picture?

I have some photos of him and can't quite figure out who he belongs to... Son of William Grey Nicholls?

I see he went to WW1 - Mrs AG Dearle (Aunt) was listed as his next of kin... So If he isn't a son of James Ponui, I'm assuming he's the son of William/Wiremu?

His birth is not listed on the BDM
