I am trying to connect my grandfather Francis Murray (1851-1917) to Archbishop Daniel Murray (1768-1852) I have read all the articles by J. M. Flannery with great interest. My grandfather lived in Coolemore, Ennerreilly Co. wWcklow and was married to Anne McGrath on 17- o8-1873 in Kilbride. My great grandfather was James Murray who was married to Anne Mcgrath. All efforts to link this information to the archbishop has failed.  I know there could be a link through his brothers William (via his sons, James, John, or Paul ),James and Peter( 1763-1832) but the records seem to have been destroyed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Des

Can you clarify who was married to Anne McGrath please?

Francis Murray 1851-1917
or his father
James Murray

or did they both happen to marry women of the same name?

several sources (e.g. 1, 2) state that Daniel was born in the townland of Sheepwalk, which is located about 5km north west of Arklow.

The civil parish is Kilbride (Arklow barony), and it looks like the RC parish would be Avoca. Baptism records for this parish go back to 1792, marriages to 1778. Since the area is so close to Arklow it might be worth considering that parish also, as the boundaries may have altered over the years.

Baptism records for Arklow RC parish go back to 1817, marriages to 1818.

Hi Myluck and Shanew147. Many thanks for your suggestions. that's the way I was thinking but its getting the link between James (son of William ) and my relation is difficult to get without or even dates of birth. I was told by Wicklow C.C. that  the records were burned during the civil war. As you have stated there are other ways. I'm only  new to this and learning more every day

no Catholic records were held in the Public Records office - so were none were destroyed in the four courts fire in 1922.

Among the records held in the PRO were Church of Ireland records, and some of the early census returns
